Rescue Village holds a very dear place in our hearts... we adopted our puppy Cramer from them years ago :) It is a wonderful facility with a staff of amazing people. They really do so much for their animals there and we had such a wonderful experience!! We have privately donated to them over the years and have encouraged our family/friends to do the same. We have recommended them many times to our family/friends looking to adopt a pet and now we would like to suggest the same to our customers :) Below is a little more information about the Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village and all the great things that they do...

Our Puppy Cramer

Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village is a nonprofit organization supported solely by private donations and grants. A leader in animal welfare for over 30 years, they are committed to sheltering & finding homes for sick, injured, abused and abandoned animals. They do not euthanize (humanely put to sleep) ANY animal for space or time constraints.

As a service to the community, Geauga Humane Society funds the Geauga County Humane Officer. The Geauga County Humane Officer is judicially appointed to enforce State animal cruelty laws. Rescue Village provides sanctuary for animals removed from situations where cruelty charges have been filed.

Rescue Village offers educational programs to individuals as well as civic, community, professional, and school groups.

  • TLC Kids Camp - educational program for youth
  • Animal Camp/Gathering Place - week long educational program for kids whose lives have been touched by Cancer

  • Pets for the Elderly Adoptions (adoption fee reduced for those over 60 years old)
  • Rescue Village Ambassadors - certified TDI dogs visit classrooms, outreach, and RV special events
  • Shelter Volunteers - heroes who help us with every aspect of our shelter operations

The Forbes House holds a near & dear place in my heart! Domestic violence affects millions of women & children everyday! It is facilities like this that truly help women change their lives!! This facility has personally helped to change the lives of people we know that lived in a homes with domestic violence. Our family donates to this organization and during the holidays, instead of buying gifts for each other, we donate gifts for the women & children at this center.  The Forbes House really needs everyones help right now! In December we had a terrible flood in Ohio and it has sadly affected this facility greatly!! Please give what you can to help this amazing facility, I am sure it will be greatly appreciated!!

More Information About The Forbes House:

The Forbes House approach to the women who call or come into the shelter is a holistic one.  Immediate shelter is a temporary solution to an immediate crisis.  Leaving the abusive environment is the first step.  Battered women often need long term counseling, housing, legal assistance etc.  Advocates and the counselor work with the women to assess their needs and the needs of their children, and assist them in any way they can.  Referrals are also made to appropriate agencies and/or persons to help women and children accomplish their goals.

Forbes House Mission Statement:

To relieve the trauma resulting from domestic violence, to assure safe and caring environments for its victims, and to foster an end to domestic violence through education, prevention and advocacy.

Forbes House works to end the cycle of violence for families experiencing emotional, physical, and /sexual abuse.

Nationally, domestic violence is the single major cause of injury to women- more than by car accidents, rapes and muggings combined.

Forbes House is a shelter home for battered women and their children. It is a safe place for women who choose to leave abusive homes while working toward solutions.

The Forbes House Programs & Services:

To address the needs of victims of domestic violence, Forbes House provides services in a number of areas.  Services and programs include:

Shelter – Forbes House provides a safe supportive shelter 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The shelter can house up to 30 women and children and we are also able to provide shelter to a physically challenged woman and/or child. Stay at the shelter is generally limited to 30 days.

Helpline – 24 hour Helpline for crisis intervention, support and to provide information and referrals.  Staff and volunteers are on call so that a woman needing to come into the shelter may do so no matter what time of the day or night it is.

Advocacy – Battered women must often deal with complex bureaucracies.  Advocates assist women and children by acting as a liaison with any bureaucracies they must come in contact with.  Advocates also assist women in establishing their goals; facilitate referrals to other agencies; and accompany women through the legal system.  Advocacy is available to ex-residents and nonresidents as well as women and children in the shelter.

Children’s Program – The counselor addresses the needs of the children; works with mothers to develop and enhance parenting skills; and facilitates referrals to other agencies.  The counselor works with the children individually and in small groups.  She also provides activities for moms to do with their children.

Support Groups/Outreach – Support groups for nonresidents and ex-residents provide emotional and psychological support from peers with direction from a staff member or trained volunteer.

Community Education – Speaker present programs on issues relating to domestic violence, including date abuse, to schools, community groups, and other organizations.  Area high schools and junior high schools have responded well to our Community Education program.

Aftercare – Volunteers an evening staff keep in touch with women who have left the shelter by mail and phone.  They provide referrals and emotional support to help ex-residents remain in healthy, nonviolent relationships.  A phone call or letter may also be the catalyst a formerly abused woman needs to reassert her goals to herself.

Counseling – A counselor is available to meet with the women at least one time each week.  She addresses mental health related issues and refers the women for extended counseling.  There are also two play therapy groups for children that meet weekly.

This amazing organization was recommended by our friend & artist As Evans. They are doing wonderful things at the House Rabbit Society!! They are an international nonprofit organization that rescues rabbits from animal shelters and educates the public on rabbit care and behavior.

House Rabbit Society Philosophy
    1. The House Rabbit Society believes that ALL rabbits are valuable as individuals, regardless of breed purity, temperament, state of health, or relationship to humans. The welfare of all rabbits is our primary consideration.
    2. In line with our mission, we are against the exploitation of rabbits.
    3. Except for unique situations, in which wild animals are being nursed or rehabilitated, it is in the best interest of wild rabbits that human intervention be held to a minimum.
    4. Domestic rabbits are not the product of natural selection, but rather of human interference by means of breeding programs, and the product is a human-dependent animal who needs protection. It is therefore a human responsibility that these animals be cared for in a manner appropriate to their needs.
    5. It is in the best interest of domestic rabbits to be neutered/spayed, to live in human housing where supervision and protection are provided, and to be treated for illnesses by veterinarians.
    6. Domestic rabbits are companion animals and should be afforded at least the same individual rights, level of care, and opportunity for longevity as commonly afforded to dogs and cats who live as human companions.
    7. Rabbits are intelligent, social animals who require mental stimulation, toys, exercise, environmental activity, and social interaction (from, as appropriate, people, other rabbits, or other animals).
